Scoops Here.

Social networking usage in America will not falter. The Nielsen Company is out again with a new study finding that 17% of all of their Internet usage spending quality time with social networking sites–this number is triple that the time dedicated a year ago.

While many still try to keep their budgets focused on traditional media, most are seeing that social networking sites are where people are, and they need to be there. According to Nielsen, the online advertising spending on top social networks and blogs was estimated at $108 million for August 2009, a 119% increase over August 2008 figures. Woah Nelly!

If you see in the chart, online ad expenditures across traditional sites are down in many sectors, but are up in every sector for social media sites.

So why are advertisers using social network now? Other than the numbers you see.–They can target users based on location, age and demographics. Not to mention it decreases the number of barriers that exist in communicating directly with potential and current customers.

I know there are many of you out there and you know who you are…has social networking sites give you an escape from that report you have due at COB or for that distraction to not have to listen to that philosophy lecture?

So how long are you on social networking sites these days?
